Democrats Announce Bill Going After Online Ammo Sales

Via the Hill:

Two Democratic lawmakers on Monday will announce new legislation to regulate the online and mail-order sale of ammunition.

Sen. Frank Lautenberg (N.J.) and Rep. Carolyn McCarthy (N.Y.) said the new law would make the sale of ammunition “safer for law-abiding Americans who are sick and tired of the ease with which criminals can now anonymously stockpile for mass murder,” in a statement released Saturday.

“The shooter who killed 12 and injured 58 in an Aurora, Colorado movie theater this month had purchased over 6,000 rounds of ammunition anonymously on the Internet shortly before going on his killing spree, according to law enforcement officials,” the statement reads. “The shooter used a civilian version of the military’s M-16 rifle with a 100-round drum magazine, a shotgun and two .40-caliber semi-automatic handguns commonly used by police officers.”

Lautenberg and McCarthy, who will unveil their new proposal at New York’s City Hall say they intend to “make it harder for criminals to anonymously stockpile ammunition through the Internet.”

The stupid runs strong with these two.  Nothing could be done to prevent the Colorado murderer’s rampage.  He was dedicated to it, committed to it, was a Ph.D candidate in neuroscience.  The man was every bit on paper the epitome of a trustworthy character and reliable citizen.  Had he chosen to firebomb the theater or attack another easy target, he could’ve easily ended up committing more murders.  People don’t plan on madmen attacking them or committing mass acts of violence – at least not in most of the US.

Lautenberg is the senator famous for the “Lautenberg Amendment” which can mean that if you yell at your girlfriend, you may lose your 2A rights; or that you’ll simply become a criminal.

Part of the statement issued is quite interesting: “two .40-caliber semi-automatic handguns commonly used by police officers”.  Somehow, this is supposed to make them seem more dangerous, as though the pistols he used (one was in his vehicle, the other on his person) were somehow worse because they’re used by professionals, as though police have access to something more powerful.  And, in NY, that is the case, as policemen’s lives are deemed more important than the peon subjects, and police are allowed normal-capacity magazines, rather than neutered 10-round magazines.  As noted yesterday, would you rather have 10 chances to stop a threat or 20?  Why would you let your government deny you the tools to defend your life?  Would you want a fire extinguisher that only works for 5 seconds and not 20 because it’s “too powerful” or “the type used by professional firefighters”, as though it’s too much for a little peon subject like you?

These politicians have utter contempt for the citizenry, choosing to lord over the individuals who they are supposed to represent, deeming “the people” – and that means YOU, too stupid and weak and feeble-minded to be trusted with the tools of your own self-defense, especially since your life isn’t really worth anything.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) said last week that he does not intend to bring gun control legislation to the floor and President Obama has been reluctant to press lawmakers to act on the issue in an election year.

Harry Reid’s only redeeming feature is that he’s from Nevada and knows that if he ever lets any gun control pass, he’ll be gone.  He acts as a roadblock to gun control, and knows that the NRA is willing to let him slide on issues that still should be anathema to them as they are anathema to individual freedom in order to make sure that single issue of gun control is blocked.

Democratic senators though have offered an amendment to the cybersecurity bill that would limit the purchase of high capacity magazines by some consumers. Sen. Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) defended it last Thursday as a “reasonable” gun control measure.

“Reasonable.”  Yes, be reasonable, give me what I want, or I’ll call you unreasonable.  “C’mon, baby, be reasonable, just the tip.”

“We need to start today on efforts to prevent the next attack,” he said in a statement. “We should begin by passing my legislation to ban the sale of high-capacity gun magazines. No sportsman needs 100 rounds to shoot a duck, but allowing high-capacity magazines in the hands of killers like James Holmes and Jared Loughner puts law enforcement at a disadvantage and innocent lives at risk.”

Note that in this clip, Dr. Suzanna Gratia-Hupp is addressing Chuck Schumer – and this is over 20 years ago.  These politician statist control freaks out to crush the freedom of the American citizen never go away.

It’s worth watching the whole clip as former Texas state representative Dr. Suzanna Gratia-Hupp tears them a new one – of course, this was long before she was a Texas state representative.  The reason she went into politics was to push for the right of the citizen to bear arms in self-defense.

Lautenberg and McCarthy are zealots against the right of the people to defend themselves – they are against your right to defend yourself.  Nothing short of a violent, repressive police state will prevent a criminal from using violence to harm innocent people; and therein a violent, repressive police state harms all the people.  Innocent people who can stop a criminal immediately can protect themselves and prevent any harm after the criminal’s intentions are made clear.

And for those playing along at home, how many calls for the ATF to be investigated over running guns to the Mexican drug cartels and narcoterrorists have come from Lautenberg or McCarthy or any other democrat?  None?  Oh, yeah, that’s right.
