DENVER (CBS4) – Gov. John Hickenlooper says he will support Rep. Rhonda Fields’ bill limiting rounds in gun magazines. The governor spoke with CBS4 Political Specialist Shaun Boyd about the gun control issue on Tuesday.
Some felt the governor had been going back and forth on this issue. He admitted to Boyd it’s been a hard decision and he has waffled, but now he says if the legislature passes the bill he will sign it — even if it means losing 200 jobs.
Yup. He waffled the other day. But he’s decided to drive Magpul out of the state and decimate the Colorado plastics and manufacturing industries.
The governor insisted his decisions on the gun measures are not based on any pressure from Washington. While Vice President Joe Biden has called several state lawmakers, Hickenlooper told Boyd he hasn’t had anyone from the White House contact him.
“You put yourself in the shoes of that principal and resource officer running for their lives and trying to save the kids and what’s in their minds; and him just flipping around and he’s got a 30-shot clip. He’s got two 30-shot clips taped together,” Hickenlooper said. “You’ve got to think, ‘Is the convenience of someone at a target range not having to change their clip quite so often worth the risk to citizens and people in their neighborhoods?’ ”
This isn’t about “convenience”, it’s about freedom. It’s about liberty and the tools to maintain it. Maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow, but to maintain weapons in citizen hands that are sufficient to raise a militia against tyrannical moves by government, and by all enemies, foreign and domestic.
“That rifle on the wall of the labourer’s cottage or working class flat is the symbol of democracy. It is our job to see that it stays there.”
– George Orwell
There may be some anti-gun Republicans, but there are no pro-gun Democrats. Where the party goes, they go.
The logic of arguing that a madman who attacks defenseless children, children intentionally left more defenseless by keeping their teachers disarmed – who are their protectors while they are at school; taking that logic that a madman’s vile acts are justification for disarming responsible citizens is itself madness. Out of 310,000,000 people, only one had to be a deranged madman for Hickenlooper to justify fully supporting anti-rights policies and crushing the rights of 310 million people who did nothing. The acts of one turn into punishment for all? The mob in the Colorado legislature who think women should be raped rather than armed have pushed forward a declaration that citizens will be oppressed – a desire they’ve always had – now based on a madman’s actions 1000 miles away.
That’s not exactly government of the people, by the people, and for the people. That’s government of the Ruling Class, by the Ruling Class in government, and for the Ruling Classes’ government’s interests – because it certainly isn’t in the citizens’ interest to be disarmed.
